Obsidian builds your second brain, Foldcrumbs lets you query it, distill it into memories and connect it to an AI agent. Foldcrumbs works with Obsidian vaults and folders of notes, read-only, and with memories you tell it to keep. Everything happens on your iPhone, unless you choose an external provider for distillation.
How do I add my Obsidian vault?
Tap “Add Source”, then in the picker open “On My iPhone › Obsidian” or “iCloud Drive › Obsidian” and tap the vault folder. Any folder with .md or .txt notes works too.
Does Foldcrumbs change my notes?
No. Sources are read-only: Foldcrumbs never writes to your vaults or folders. It only writes to its own memories.
I only see the notes found, not a written answer.
Written answers use Apple Intelligence: you need a compatible iPhone with Apple Intelligence turned on. Without it, Foldcrumbs still shows the notes and memories it found.
How do I forget a memory?
Swipe left on it and tap “Forget”: it is really deleted.
How do I connect an AI agent?
Use the Siri and Shortcuts actions (“Ask Memory”, “Search Memory and Notes”, “Remember”): any agent that can run Shortcuts can use them.
What is distillation?
An optional feature, off by default (Settings › Memory rewriting): your notes are rewritten into short memories, which you then accept, reject or correct. You pick who does it: Apple's on-device model (nothing leaves your iPhone; at night while charging), or Claude, GPT or an OpenAI-compatible service with your own API key. Before anything is sent you see how many notes go out, to which service, and the estimated cost. See the privacy policy.
Is Foldcrumbs made by Obsidian?
No. Foldcrumbs is an independent app that works with Obsidian vaults; it is not affiliated with or endorsed by Obsidian. Obsidian is a trademark of Dynalist Inc.
